Amniotic therapy has demonstrated the safe and effective use of umbilical cord and amniotic membrane for treating a variety of conditions throughout the body. It offers immediate cushioning that creates a healing environment and long-term regenerative healing. Ask your doctor how this therapy may help your body diminish pain and improve function. You may be able to combat inflammatory and degenerative disease and injury by managing pain and inflammation, managing scar tissue formation, and restoring joint range of motion.

Since this is a minimally invasive procedure, not much preparation is required. Your health concerns should be previously discussed with the doctor to determine whether Amniotic therapy is a suitable treatment for you. Make sure the doctor also has knowledge of all the medications you take. Abstain from alcohol and smoking since they both can be toxic to cells. Select a care advocate who is able to come with you on the day of the procedure and drive you home afterwards.
When prepared for use as an allograft, the membrane is harvested immediately after birth, cleaned, sterilized, and either cryopreserved or dehydrated. The products are formulated either as patches, which can be applied as wound covers, as suspensions or particulates; or connective tissue extractions, which can be injected or applied topically. At SMWIO we usually proceed via injections containing the amniotic fluid.
Pain medications are often prescribed as the treated area may be feeling sore and painful immediately after treatment. However, these should only be taken as prescribed by a doctor. Cold therapy, rest and elevation are recommended for the first 48 hours. The recovery period typically takes from 3–5 days of rest with gradual return to regular activities as tolerated by the patient.
