LipoGems Therapy

About

Fat tissue is versatile and plays an essential role in the way our body functions. It contains 100-500 times more reparative cells than other similar tissue, and is a structural tissue which provides cushion and support to help the healing process. As a person ages, their fat tissue maintains its reparative properties unlike other similar tissue, which means it can always be used. One great advantage of LipoGems therapy is that the fat cells can be delivered to multiple areas of the body. For patients that suffer from orthopedic conditions in multiple areas of their body, this therapy can treat all those areas in just one visit.

LipoGems therapy is ideal for patients who:

• Have an orthopedic condition.

• Are unable to get major, invasive surgery.

• Would like another option to major, invasive surgery.

• Would like to use LipoGems therapy in conjunction with their surgery.

At South Miami Walk-In Orthopedics and Sports Medicine we offer comprehensive care solutions for patients suffering from musculoskeletal pain. We count on the vast experience of our doctors who work meticulously to get the proper diagnosis and treatment for our patients. In general, our procedure includes examining the affected area in close detail and designing a personalized plan of treatment that maximizes the chances of a proper and fast recovery.

Since this is a minimally invasive procedure, not much preparation is required. Your health concerns should be previously discussed with the doctor to determine whether LipoGems therapy is a suitable treatment for you. Make sure the doctor also has knowledge of all the medications you take. Abstain from alcohol and smoking since they both can be toxic to cells. Select a care advocate who is able to come with you on the day of the procedure and drive you home afterwards.

In a minimally invasive and immediate procedure, the doctor will make a tiny puncture through your skin and collect a small amount of fat from either your midsection or “love handles.” The collected fat will then be processed using sterile saline solution to remove contaminants. During this process your fat is washed, rinsed, and resized into smaller clusters while keeping its natural beneficial properties. The doctor will then use a small needle to inject the processed fat tissue into the treatment site.

Pain medications are often prescribed as the treated area may be feeling sore and painful immediately after treatment. However, these should only be taken as prescribed by a doctor. Cold therapy, rest and elevation are recommended for the first 48 hours. Resuming regular activities as tolerated is typically the way to reintegrate to your normal life.
