Physical Therapy

About

Physical therapy includes evaluating, assessing, and treating individuals with mobility limitations regardless of their age. It helps in creating body awareness (a benefit that is usually overlooked or underestimated), becoming aware of our movements as we carry out our daily activities, and could significantly help in maintaining good posture and minimizing stress on the joints.
People generally turn to physical therapy to progressively restore their pain-free states, to prevent injuries, or to improve balance and physical longevity. If done properly, physical therapy is the ideal conservative form of treatment, capable of bringing better results than surgery.

At SFWIO we understand that physical therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution and that’s the reason why our treatments are tailored to fit the uniqueness of each patient’s body and conditions. Physical therapy can be an alternative to surgery, a prerequisite to perform surgery, or part of the care regime following surgery. Its benefits and uses are unlimited and can be constantly unlocked by human potential.

Conditions commonly treated:

• Trauma Surgery

• Sports Medicine

• Arthroscopic Surgery

• Athletic Injuries

• Sports Injuries

• Rotator Cuff Injuries

• Anterior Cruciate Ligament Repair

• Hand Injuries

• Fracture Care

• Operative & Non-operative (most) Orthopedic Injuries

• Current Alternative Treatments

Before proceeding with orthopedic surgery, it is quite common for patients to have physical therapy. Getting several weeks of physical therapy before undergoing surgery can reduce joint inflammation and improve blood flow to the area. By doing so, the healing process to follow will be shortened and significantly enhanced.

After surgery, physical therapy could play a vital role in helping you get back to your regular life. At SMWIO we strongly recommend physical therapy as a method of improving range of motion, minimizing scar tissue development, and in general, to obtain a maximized healing process.

There is a common myth that surgery is a solve-it-all solution. Our experience indicates otherwise. We’ve seen physical therapy work so well that sometimes it has eliminated the need for surgery. We’ve also experienced first hand how surgery isn’t always the best route. The outcome depends on the person, and since we are all very unique, so are our treatments.

Recreational physical activities and athletics require superior physical capacity, and with such, higher chances for getting injured arise. Our doctors’ expertise comes from learning first hand how to treat any type of sport injury. They rank at the top 1% in medical certifications, and are trusted medical directors for the NBA and MLB.
